7-Day Kenya Park Safari: From Tsavo East to Maasai Mara via Nairobi

Explore Kenya’s top park destinations on a 7-day safari from Mombasa to Tsavo East, Nairobi, and Maasai Mara. Discover wildlife, scenic landscapes, and unforgettable park adventures.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN MOMBASA
Arrive in Mombasa in the evening, where you’ll be warmly greeted by your professional driver-guide and escorted to your coastal accommodation. Whether you’ve chosen the vibrant shores of Diani Beach or the conveniently located Nyali Beach, your journey begins with comfort and care. After check-in, take time to settle into your surroundings and unwind. A light welcome dinner awaits, allowing you to savor your first taste of coastal Kenyan cuisine. Spend the rest of the evening relaxing at your hotel, enjoying the ocean breeze, perhaps taking a short walk along the beach, or simply resting after your travels in preparation for the exciting park safari days ahead.

DAY 2: MOMBASA TO TSAVO EAST NATIONAL PARK
After an early breakfast, depart from the coast and drive inland to Tsavo East National Park, one of Kenya’s oldest and largest protected wilderness areas. Known for its red-elephant herds, dramatic landscapes, and remote, unspoiled terrain, Tsavo East is a truly wild park. The drive takes around 3.5 to 4 hours. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge or camp near Voi Gate, enjoy lunch, and relax. Later in the afternoon, embark on your first thrilling game drive across Tsavo’s vast plains. Return to your lodge in the early evening for dinner and a peaceful overnight surrounded by the natural beauty of the park.

DAY 3: FULL-DAY SAFARI IN TSAVO EAST
Begin the day with a sunrise game drive, an ideal time to catch big cats and other predators in action before the sun climbs. After breakfast, continue exploring the diverse terrain of the park, visiting sites like Aruba Dam, where many animals gather to drink. A picnic lunch in the bush or at the lodge keeps you immersed in nature. In the afternoon, enjoy another game drive through the rugged landscapes, maximizing your chances of spotting elephants, lions, buffalo, and more. Finish the day with sundowners and dinner at your lodge, appreciating the raw charm of the national park at dusk.

DAY 4: TSAVO EAST TO NAIROBI
After breakfast and a final short game drive as you exit the park, embark on a scenic journey to Nairobi. The overland trip (about 6 to 7 hours) winds through rural towns, plantations, and the elevated highlands of central Kenya. Arrive in Nairobi in the afternoon and check into your city hotel. Take the evening to rest or enjoy an optional dinner at a nearby restaurant. After days spent in the parks, the comfort of urban amenities offers a relaxing change of pace.

DAY 5: NAIROBI TO MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE
Leave Nairobi after an early breakfast and begin your journey into the Great Rift Valley, traveling toward the world-famous Maasai Mara National Reserve, one of Africa’s most celebrated wildlife conservation parks. The scenic drive takes 5 to 6 hours. Arrive in time for lunch and check in at your safari lodge or tented camp. In the afternoon, embark on a game drive across the golden savannah plains. The Mara is home to vast wildlife populations, including the Big Five. Return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay in this iconic park ecosystem.

DAY 6: FULL-DAY SAFARI IN MAASAI MARA
Spend the entire day in Maasai Mara, a park revered for its high density of game and spectacular scenery. Start with a sunrise game drive to capture early animal activity, followed by breakfast at the lodge or a bush breakfast at an additional cost. The rest of the day includes extensive game viewing across various zones of the park, with breaks for lunch and optional activities such as a Maasai village visit or a hot air balloon ride over the park (extra cost). Return in the evening to enjoy dinner under the stars, surrounded by the untouched wilderness of the reserve.

DAY 7: MAASAI MARA TO MOMBASA VIA NAIROBI AND DEPARTURE
After breakfast, enjoy a final look at the vast landscapes of the park during your transfer by 4×4 safari cruiser back to Nairobi (approx. 6 hours). Upon arrival, transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for your domestic flight to Mombasa. Upon landing, connect to your international flight or optionally head back to your coastal hotel for more beach time. This marks the end of your unforgettable Kenyan park safari through some of the country’s most iconic wildlife destinations.
