6-Day Northern Tanzania Safari: Manyara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro & Tarangire
Venture deep into the soul of Africa on a journey that links Kenya’s iconic reserves with Tanzania’s legendary parks. Witness the dramatic wildlife of the Maasai Mara, marvel at Lake Nakuru’s flamingo-fringed shores, and stand in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro in Amboseli. Cross into Tanzania to explore the endless Serengeti plains, descend into the wildlife-dense Ngorongoro Crater, and wander beneath the ancient baobabs of Tarangire. This cross-border safari blends raw adventure, unforgettable landscapes, and rich traditions into one epic experience.
DAY 1: ARUSHA TO LAKE MANYARA
Fuel up on breakfast in Arusha, meet your driver‑guide, and roll westward through coffee estates and Maasai villages. By mid‑morning the groundwater forest of Lake Manyara welcomes you with emerald foliage alive with trilling birds. After a picnic lunch, cruise the lakeshore in search of pink flamingo ribbons and the park’s famous tree‑climbing lions. As dusk paints the Rift Valley cliffs gold, settle into camp beneath a baobab‑studded sky.
DAY 2: LAKE MANYARA TO SERENGETI
Leave the escarpment behind and climb through the Ngorongoro Highlands, passing Maasai herders wrapped in crimson shúkàs. Four hours later the plains open like an ocean: welcome to the Serengeti. Spend the afternoon weaving among kopjes and vast grasslands where prowling cheetahs and thundering wildebeest herds set the scene. Fall asleep to the lullaby of distant hyenas and a billion stars.
DAY 3: SERENGETI – FULL DAY GAME VIEWING
Sunrise ignites the savannah—perfect light for photography as balloons drift overhead. Track the Great Migration (seasonal) or stake out a pride of lions lounging in morning shade. Lunch under an acacia umbrella, then drift toward the Grumeti River where crocodiles lurk and hippos grunt. After an epic day on Africa’s most storied stage, return to camp for fireside tales.
DAY 4: SERENGETI TO NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA
An early start means more predator action: leopards draped in sausage‑tree branches, jackals trotting across dew‑pearled grass. Mid‑morning, point south toward Ngorongoro, pausing (optional, ≈ $35) at Olduvai Gorge—the cradle of humankind. By sunset you’re perched on the crater rim, cool highland air carrying promises of tomorrow’s wildlife spectacle.
DAY 5: NGORONGORO CRATER TO TARANGIRE
Descend 600 metres into Earth’s greatest natural amphitheatre. Within its walls roam black rhinos, tusker elephants, and dense lion prides. Picnic beside a hippo‑filled pool, then climb back to the rim and head to Tarangire National Park. Giant baobabs line the dusty road, and elephants appear like grey behemoths in the fading light.
DAY 6: TARANGIRE TO ARUSHA
Morning mist hovers over the Tarangire River—lifeline to thirsty wildlife. Watch elephant families dig for water, spot graceful giraffes nibbling acacia tops, and listen to the park’s 500‑plus bird species greet the day. After a picnic lunch among the baobabs, journey back to Arusha with memory cards full and hearts wide‑open.
